  • Some documents were not found to be submitted in the ITR.
  • There was a delay in the ITR filing.
  • No ITR was filed.
  • An investment was made in the name of your spouse but was not mentioned in ITR.
  • The high-value transactions made during the financial year were not reported in the ITR.
  • The long-term capital gains from stock investment not being mentioned in the report.

Step 1: Visit the official income tax e-filing portal and click on the “Authenticate notice/order issued by ITD” option under the “Quick Links” section.

Step 2: You can authenticate your income tax notice by either:

  • Use your PAN, document type, assessment year, issue date and mobile number (for notice/order/letter issued for AY 2011-12 and subsequent years only).
  •  Or use the Document Identification Number (DIN) and mobile number (for all assessment years).

Step 3: After filling in the details on the website, you will receive an OTP. Once the verification is done, the DIN and the issued date of the notice will be displayed on the screen. If no notice has been issued, then a message saying “No record found for the given criteria” will be shown. 

Step 4: There is another alternative to authenticate your income tax notice. You can use your DIN and mobile number in this process. Similarly to the first process, you will receive an OTP.

Step 5: After being verified, if you have received a notice, then it will show “Yes, Notice/Order/Letter is issued by Income Tax Authority for the details entered.” If no notice has been issued, then it will show, “No record found for the given Document Number.”
